Country Full Name: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Location: Afghanistan is in Southern Asia, north and west of Pakistan, east of Iran.

Country Climate: Arid to semiarid; cold winters and hot summers.

Country Terrain: Mostly rugged mountains; plains in north and southwest.

Major Languages: Pashto, Dari (Persian).

Major Religions: Islam.

Country Population: 28.1 million (2008 est.) 28.9 million (2009 est.).

Country Economy: The economy of Afghanistan has improved significantly since 2002 due to the infusion of multi-billion US dollars in international assistance and investments, remittances from expats, dramatic improvements in agricultural production and the end of a four-year drought in most of the country. However, Afghanistan still remains one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world and is highly dependent on foreign aid.

Currency: Afghanistan Afghani (AFN).

Country Inflation: 27% (2008 est.) -9% (2009 est.).

City: Kabul is the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, and is located in the province of Greater Kabul. It is an economic and cultural centre.

City Economy: Kabul's products include: natural gas, cotton, wool, carpets, agriculture, and some small production companies.
