Malawi, Lilongwe - Cost of Living

The economy of Malawi is among the world's least developed and most densely populated. The economy is heavily agriculture-based, with around 85% of the population living in rural areas. More than one-third of GDP and 90% of export revenues come from agriculture.

Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi. Lilongwe is the political centre of Malawi while Blantyre is the economic capital.

Lilongwe has an overall cost of living index which equates it with middle cost of living locations. The overall cost of living index is comprised of the prices for defined quantities of the same goods and services across all 13 Basket Groups.
