Moving to Bonn

Today we look at moving to Bonn in Germany from Suva in Fiji. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Bonn people speak German. In Suva people speak English, Fijian and Hindi.

Bonn is the 19th largest city in Germany. Suva is the capital and largest city of Fiji.
Bonn remains a centre of politics and administration. Roughly half of all government jobs were retained as many government departments remained in Bonn when numerous sub-ministerial level government agencies relocated to the former capital from Berlin and other parts of Germany. Suva is the commercial and political centre as well as the main port city of Fiji.

The overall cost of living rank in Bonn is 70 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with high cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Suva to Bonn will experience a change in cost of living of 28.2%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Bonn is ranked as a minimal hardship location with a hardship index of 10% compared to Suva with a hardship index of 30% which is a high degree of hardship location.
