Moving to Kingston

Today we look at moving to Kingston in Jamaica from Hyderabad in India. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Kingston people speak English (official) and English patois. In Hyderabad people speak Hindi, English and at least 16 other official languages.

Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica. Hyderabad is the capital and the most populous city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Kingston, as the capital, is the financial, cultural, economic and industrial centre of Jamaica. Hyderabad has developed into a major hub for the information technology industry in India. The city is home to the world's largest film studio, the Ramoji Film City as well as the Telugu Film Industry, the second-largest in India, known popularly as Tollywood.

The overall cost of living rank in Kingston is 113 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with middle cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Hyderabad to Kingston will experience a change in cost of living of 10.3%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Kingston is ranked as a some hardship location with a hardship index of 20% compared to Hyderabad with a hardship index of 30% which is a high degree of hardship location.
