Moving to Basseterre

Today we look at moving to Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis from Lima in Peru. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Basseterre people speak English. In Lima people speak Spanish, Quechua and Aymara.

Basseterre is the capital of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. The city of Basseterre has established itself as a financial centre in the Eastern Caribbean. Lima is the industrial and financial center of Peru, home to many national companies. It accounts for more than two thirds of Peru's industrial production and most of its tertiary sector.

The overall cost of living rank in Basseterre is 223 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with low cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Lima to Basseterre will experience a change in cost of living of -8%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Basseterre is ranked as a some hardship location with a hardship index of 20% compared to Lima with a hardship index of 30% which is a high degree of hardship location.
