Moving to Jamestown

Today we look at moving to Jamestown in Saint Helena from Asuncion in Paraguay. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Jamestown people speak English. In Asuncion people speak Spanish and Guarani.

Jamestown is the capital of the island of Saint Helena. Asuncion is the capital and largest city of Paraguay. Jamestown is the island's port, with facilities for unloading goods delivered to the island, and the centre of the island's road and communications network. Asuncion is the home of the national government, principal port, and the chief industrial and cultural centre of the country. Local manufacturing production includes footwear, textiles, and tobacco products.

The overall cost of living rank in Jamestown is 50 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with high cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Asuncion to Jamestown will experience a change in cost of living of 39%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Jamestown is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% compared to Asuncion with a hardship index of 20% which is a some hardship location.
