Moving to Manila

Today we look at moving to Manila in Philippines from Oslo in Norway. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Manila people speak Filipino and English (both official) . In Oslo people speak Norwegian.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines. Oslo is the capital and largest city in Norway. Manila is one of the world's largest and most densely populated cities in the world. Manila's economy is diverse and multifaceted and serves as the nation's chief seaport. Oslo's port is the largest general cargo port in the country and its leading passenger gateway. Oslo is home to some of which are the world's largest shipping companies, shipbrokers, and insurance brokers.

The overall cost of living rank in Manila is 142 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with middle cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Oslo to Manila will experience a change in cost of living of -34%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Manila is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% compared to Oslo with a hardship index of 10% which is a minimal hardship location.
