Moving to Nuku'Alofa

Today we look at moving to Nuku'Alofa in Tonga from Mbabane in Swaziland. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Nuku'Alofa people speak Tongan and English. In Mbabane people speak Swazi and English (both official).

Nuku'Alofa is the capital and commercial, transport and social center of Tonga. Mbabane is the capital and largest city of Swaziland. Nuku'Alofa is the economic hub of the country. Mbabane, and Swaziland itself, depend on tourism and sugar exports.

The overall cost of living rank in Nuku'Alofa is 293 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with low cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Mbabane to Nuku'Alofa will experience a change in cost of living of -20%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Nuku'Alofa is ranked as an extreme hardship location with a hardship index of 40% compared to Mbabane with a hardship index of 30% which is a high degree of hardship location.
