Moving to Sao Tome

Today we look at moving to Sao Tome in Sao Tome and Principe from Doha in Qatar. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Sao Tome people speak Portuguese. In Doha people speak Arabic and English.

Sao Tome is the capital city of Sao Tome and Principe and is the largest town. Doha is the capital and largest city of the state of Qatar. Sao Tome is an important port and center of the island's road and bus networks. Doha is Qatar's largest city, with over 80% of the nation's population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and is also the economic center of the country.

The overall cost of living rank in Sao Tome is 103 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with middle cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Doha to Sao Tome will experience a change in cost of living of -4.3%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Sao Tome is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% compared to Doha with a hardship index of 20% which is a some hardship location.
