Moving to Tunis

Today we look at moving to Tunis in Tunisia from Geneva in Switzerland. We highlight cost of living and other major differences likely to be experienced in our series of short blogs on moving between different international locations.
In Tunis people speak Arabic (official) and French. In Geneva people speak German, French, Italian and Romansch.

Tunis is the capital and largets city of Tunisia. Geneva is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. Tunis is the heartland of the Tunisian economy and is the industrial and economic hub of the country. Products include textiles, carpets, and olive oil. Tourism also provides a significant portion of the city's income. Geneva's economy is mainly services oriented. The city has an important and old finance sector, which is specialized in private banking (managing assets of about 1 trillion USD) and financing of international trade.

The overall cost of living rank in Tunis is 291 out of 300 global locations, which equates it with low cost of living locations.  An expatriate moving from Geneva to Tunis will experience a change in cost of living of -57.6%.
In terms of the hardship people are likely to experience, assessed in global terms, Tunis is ranked as a high degree of hardship location with a hardship index of 30% compared to Geneva with a hardship index of 10% which is a minimal hardship location.
