Assignment in Nicosia

Today I would like to discuss Nicosia in Cyprus. If you were to be sent to Nicosia on an expatriate assignment or if you were to relocate there, you are likely to experience weather that is temperate; mediterranean with hot, dry summers and cool winters. You will meet people who speak Greek, Turkish and English.

The cost of clothing is very high. The cost of food and beverages is high. The cost of housing is average. The cost of transport is very high. Nicosia, known locally as Lefkosia is the capital and largest city of Cyprus. Nicosia is important commercially with many shops, two modern shopping malls, restaurants and entertainment. The city is a trade centre and manufactures textiles, leather, pottery, plastic, and other products. Copper mines are nearby. Nicosia is the seat of the University of Cyprus (UCY) and four other universities.

From a day to day comfort perspective, you are likely to experience minimal hardship. Be sure to negotiate an appropriate salary or allowance to compensate for the cost of living. If you live in Nicosia or if you lived there recently, let us know what your experience has been. Would you live in Nicosia again?
