Assignment in Santiago

Today I would like to discuss Santiago in Chile. If you were to be sent to Santiago on an expatriate assignment or if you were to relocate there, you are likely to experience weather that is temperate with desert in north, mediterranean climate in the central region, and cool and damp in south. You will meet people who speak Spanish.

The cost of clothing is high. The cost of food and beverages and housing is average. The cost of transport is  low compared to other places. Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile. Santiago is the industrial and financial centre of Chile, and generates almost half the country's GDP.

From a day to day comfort perspective, you are likely to experience a high degree of hardship. Be sure to negotiate an appropriate salary or allowance to compensate for the cost of living. If you live in Santiago or if you lived there recently, let us know what your experience has been. Would you live in Santiago again?
