Assignment in Shenzhen

Today I would like to discuss Shenzhen in China. If you were to be sent to Shenzhen on an expatriate assignment or if you were to relocate there, you are likely to meet people who speak Mandarin Chinese.

The cost of clothing is high. The cost of food and beverages is low. The cost of housing is very high. The cost of transport is very low. Shenzhen is a city of sub-provincial administrative status in southern China's Guangdong province, situated immediately north of Hong Kong. Shenzhen is a major manufacturing centre in China and is home to some of China's most successful high-tech companies. Shenzhen's economic output is ranked fourth among Chinese cities after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

From a day to day comfort perspective, you are likely to experience a high degree of hardship. Be sure to negotiate an appropriate salary or allowance to compensate for the cost of living. If you live in Shenzhen or if you lived there recently, let us know what your experience has been. Would you live in Shenzhen again?
